4 Key Questions to Ask for Your Member Spotlight Program

Let’s face it: People love to talk about themselves. It’s part of what makes us human! By sharing personal information about ourselves, it allows us to connect and feel comfortable building relationships with others (especially strangers). So, what’s the best way you can use this behavior for your association’s benefit?

Have you thought about implementing a Member Spotlight program? This initiative will allow for your association to establish stronger connections with your members (think retention!) and provide a nice platform for your members to share their story. Sounds like a win-win, right? Take a look at the top four questions you should ask your members to provide a knock-out spotlight!

How long have you been a member of Association X?

The ideal purpose of this question is to establish a clear connection between this specific member and your association. By highlighting this timespan, you’re building a foundation of credibility and urging your members to see a new perspective about what the typical member of your association looks like.

What is a typical day like for you?

Let’s give this member some personality! Who are they and what do they do with their day? You don’t want this spotlight to just be a pitch for how great your association is. This question gives your member base a glimpse of what it looks like to walk in your featured member’s shoes. And who doesn’t love a little behind the scenes?

What do you enjoy most about Association X?

While this spotlight should primarily focus on your featured member, one of your main goals is to show why your association provides value to the “average” member. This answer should provide your members some insight on how they should take better advantage of your association’s benefits, ideally leading to an organic increase in member engagement.

What’s your favorite tip for someone in our industry?

We all want to know more ways to make our work day a little smoother. By using your featured member as a medium for this, you’re continuing to provide even more worth to your members (and thus more need for membership with your association).

Even though obvious, remember that it’s essential for you to include a photo, full name and title of your featured member. Pro-tip: Don’t forget to include your member’s email address (with their permission) of how to connect with them. This is a great way for you to foster some networking within your association!
