And hey, it’s a valid question! As more and more Baby Boomers enter retirement, and more and more Millennials and Gen Z-ers enter and move up in the workforce, in order for associations to remain relevant (and in existence), they have to start appealing to those younger generations.

And we’re not just talking about “getting on their radar,” but actually getting those young professionals to JOIN associations. (Not the easiest task ever, we’ll admit.)

The 3 Most Engaging Photo Spotlights for Social Media

With the rise of advertising on varying social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc), it can be hard to know how to get your profile to stand out from the crowd. You need to be considerate of the varying relationships your followers have with your organization, ranging from those considering joining your organization, wanting to engage further as a member, or maybe thinking of leaving altogether.

It’s crucial now more than ever that your social media photos make a real impact and leave a lasting positive impression of your organization. If you’re not sure where to start, check out these three photo spotlights to help you get the most out of your social media channels.

1. Member Spotlight

What better way to inspire your followers than to see the endorsements and successes from existing members! By highlighting your varying members on social media, it shows that you care about the people that comprise your organization!

This experience is a big difference from the standard practice of just vaguely acknowledging your members from time to time. The goal is that your followers will see this spotlight as a reflection of what their experience would be like with your organization, encouraging them to start or deepen their relationship with your group.

Your member spotlight checklist:

  • A photo or video of your member
  • A short blurb explaining an exciting highlight about your member
  • A congratulations to them from your organization
  • A link to your member’s homepage or approved contact information

2. Staff Spotlight

Who doesn’t love to see a little behind the scenes action? By spotlighting your staff members on social media, you’re inviting your followers to step into the daily life of your organization’s staff.

This highlight can be a refreshing experience for your followers/members as it will put a face to your staff and provide a peek of your organization’s culture. Don’t forget: Social media is a great platform for you to show a fun side to your organization, so don’t hesitate to use your staff spotlights as a way to be more playful and lighthearted.

Your employee spotlight checklist:

  • A photo or video of a staff member
  • A short blurb explaining an exciting highlight about your staff member
  • A thank you for their hard work from your organization
  • A link to your organization’s about us page or staff page

3. Event Spotlight 

In the association and chamber industry, it can be tricky to find a way to physically document your benefits on your social media page. Fortunately for you, spotlighting your varied events is a perfect fit!

Whether it’s taking photos at your conferences, networking events, or volunteer opportunities, these spotlights will show your organization’s value as well as encourage your followers to participate in future functions. If possible, try to post candid photos of your events so that your followers can “partake” in the authentic experience.

Your event spotlight checklist:

  • A photo or video of your members / staff engaging at your organization’s event
  • A short blurb explaining the circumstance of the event
  • A shout-out to those members / staff / other organizations involved
  • A link to your organization’s events calendar
