Does your association or chamber of commerce hold regular luncheons (or breakfasts)? They’re a great way to engage your members and provide them with continuous value (networking opportunities, educational content, etc.).
But is there more you could be doing at your luncheons and/or breakfasts? You’re providing your members with value, but is there any untapped value there for you?
We think so! To leverage your luncheons even more, consider trying out the following two tactics:
1. Host a pop-up shop
Pop-up shops are temporary stores designed to generate revenue (and in this case, more non-dues revenue).
But what would we sell? Well, there are a few ways you could go about this. Is your event being sponsored by anyone? A CVB, for example? If so, do they have any products they sell - specialty food and snacks from the area, t-shirts, little trinkets, etc.? If so, could they potentially sell any of those onsite? That’d be something nice (and different) for your members, added value for your sponsor, and, if they’d be willing to donate a portion of the sales to your organization, more non-dues revenue for you!
But note: When it comes to pop-up shops, as with anything involving retail, there are certain rules and regulations. These vary by location, so before committing to anything, check with your city to see what exactly you need (certain permits, etc.).
2. Conduct a one-question table survey
You already know the importance of surveys, but you also probably know the difficulty associated with participation. No matter how many times you ask via email, sometimes people just don’t bother to complete them.
A big part of that has to do with time - they don’t want to take the time to fill them out. But if the survey was just one question...and it was already right there in front of them...and they had a few minutes of downtime between eating and waiting for the speaker to begin...would that increase the chances of them filling it out?
Likely! Think about what it is you really want to know from your members. For example, “What’s something new you’d like to see at our annual meeting?” Or, “What industry-related topic would you like to know more about?”
Those answers could help shape your event and content calendar - for the better!
