Engaging First-Time Conference Attendees

Engaging First-Time Conference Attendees: 4 Tactics to Try

Of course you want to provide an exceptional experience for ALL of your conference attendees, but ensuring that happens for your first-time attendees is particularly important. Their decision to attend future events (and possibly even renew their membership) depends heavily on that first experience, so going the extra mile for those folks, in particular, is certainly worth it.

What does “going the extra mile” for your first-time attendees look like? Here are a few tactics worth trying:

3 Fresh Marketing Ideas to Try at Your Organization This Spring

Posted by Callie Walker

Fresh Marketing Ideas for Spring

We love a good season change, especially when it means warmer (and longer) days ahead. And it seems like there’s just something about spring that tends to perk people up. Maybe it’s the sunshine. Or the fresh air. Or the bright, blooming flowers.

Whatever it is, use that energy in your organization’s marketing efforts. Check out these fresh ideas to try out this spring:

1. Offer a spring discount

Membership growth is a year-round initiative. To jumpstart more “joins,” consider offering some kind of spring discount - and play off the season. We came across this great example from the Public Relations Society of America:

PRSA Contest Example

Clever, right? Now your offer could be whatever you want it to be - $50 off membership dues, for example - but the point is, it’s a timely discount that benefits you and potential new members.

2. Launch a contest

If you’ve never held a contest before, there’s really no better time to try. There are so many holidays and fun themes you can play off of - Easter, Cinco de Mayo, blooming flowers, baseball season, etc.

What’s something that would resonate with your members and boost engagement?

Here’s just one example: Regardless of who your members are or what industry they work in, chances are, they’d ALL be interested in a spring getaway. Why not team up with one of your CVB partners to offer a free weekend trip somewhere? What would your members have to do to be eligible for that prize? Well there are a multitude of things you could do, but one in particular would be to have them submit a selfie showcasing why they could use a break. (We bet you’d get some funny entries. Think of those Ellen Degeneres photo submissions where the kids are on the floor covered in spaghetti. Yup, we bet those parents could use a break!)

You could title the contest “Spring Break Getaway Escape.” But tip: If you do go the photo submission route, encourage people to use a certain hashtag with their post so you can see the photos in one (or two) central locations, depending on how many social media platforms you open this up to.

3. Go green

With Earth Day coming up (April 22), now is the perfect time to show off your organization’s eco-friendly side. Do you have a paperless conference coming up? Encourage your members (and prospects) to go green by downloading your conference app. Or, if there are any other eco-friendly initiatives at your organization, promote those too.

Spring isn’t just a great time to market your membership and events. It’s a great time to market your organization as a whole, too!
