Your members are expecting instant service. They’re comparing your organization to companies like Amazon and eBay. And while none of us can directly compete with retail giants like that, there are several things you can do to meet - and even exceed - rising member expectations in 2019:

3 Simple Ways to Show Your Members Some Love This Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is just days away, and whether you love it or hate it, it is a good time to let those around you know how much you love and appreciate them.

...And that means your members, too! It’s not too late to plan a little something special. In fact, here are three simple ways to show your members some love this Valentine’s Day:

1. Give them a shoutout on social media

While you can’t recognize ALL of your members at one time, you can give them a collective shoutout. You could post a few of your favorite member-focused pictures on social media, with a caption along the lines of “With members like this, what’s not to love?! Wishing you all the happiest Valentine’s Day!”

Short, sweet, and to the point - but with a flare of personality, which is what social media is all about!

2. Send them a special email

You likely send your members all types of communications already, but why not send them one specifically for Valentine’s Day? You could even sweeten it by offering a special deal - a discounted rate on an upcoming event if they register by the end of February, for example.

This is another good opportunity to showcase your organization’s personality. Play around with the subject line. Something like “A deal you’ll L-O-V-E” or “Fall in love [with this special deal]” could be fun.

And note: This could work just as well for your prospects, too. Maybe the deal in that email is if they join by the end of February, they can get a discounted rate on membership. Be playful, but also strategic.

3. Do a few personal deliveries

Again, you can’t deliver treats to all of your members, but who says it has to be all or nothing?! Pick a few members - maybe some of your new members or maybe some of your VIP members...your choice - and personally deliver chocolates or baked goods. Not only will they be STUNNED, but they’ll likely post about it on social media (and that bodes well for future word-of-mouth recommendations).

You could even take this to social media yourself. Take a picture of the member holding the gift and post it to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram...whatever you use. The caption could be something along the lines of, “Surprise! Delivering sweet treats to our sweet members.” Talk about EXCEEDING member expectations!

Holidays are a great time to engage your organization's membership - via social media, email, in person, etc. - but ideally, you want that engagement to be pretty consistent throughout the year.
