Engaging First-Time Conference Attendees: 4 Tactics to Try

Of course you want to provide an exceptional experience for ALL of your conference attendees, but ensuring that happens for your first-time attendees is particularly important. Their decision to attend future events (and possibly even renew their membership) depends heavily on that first experience, so going the extra mile for those folks, in particular, is certainly worth it.

What does “going the extra mile” for your first-time attendees look like? Here are a few tactics worth trying:

4 Tips for Getting the Most out of Your Time with MC Trainers

Posted by Colleen Bottorff

getting the most out of your time with a memberclicks trainer

Whatever MemberClicks product(s) you use, regularly attending training will keep your database and processes in tip-top shape. How? Our training content is constantly evolving alongside our products. So, while what you’ll learn today is surely valuable, there will be more to learn a year from now as features and functionality are updated!

Similarly, your association’s or chamber’s goals evolve too, right? Our trainers want to help you achieve them. That’s why we offer so many opportunities - from online webinars to in-person events, and even on-site visits to your office - for us to work together and come up with a game plan for using your database and other tools.

So yeah, training time is valuable! And you want to make the most of it. However you choose to take advantage of training, we have a few suggestions:

1. Do some prep

Before each training, ask yourself: What do I want to get out of this training session? What questions do I need answered? Processes polished? In the time leading up to training, keep a note handy where you can jot down your thoughts as they come up. Bring them to training and we’ll help you tackle your list! (No matter how long - we can always chat after training, too!)

2. Come with an open mind

When it comes to training, we like to say “You don’t know what you don’t know!” - and we can’t tell you how many times attendees have echoed the sentiment. Chances are, training will uncover something that you didn’t know your system could do or that’ll make your work-life easier. Allow yourself some time to sit back, relax, and just listen.

Pro tip: Try attending sessions on features that aren’t necessarily related to your role. While you may not use those parts of your system, the conversation could still spark an idea!

3. Give your feedback

After attending, let us know what you thought! We always send out a survey after training events and we ALWAYS use your responses to make the overall in-person training experience better. And for sessions we don’t usually do a survey for (like a 101 webinar or a user group call), don’t hesitate to send us your feedback anyway - our virtual door is always open.

4. Get to know each other

User Group calls are a really great opportunity to chat with other people who are using the same products you are and compare notes, so-to-speak. In fact, many of our users stay in touch to bounce ideas around. Learning from each other and getting different perspectives is what it’s all about!

And our in-person events really take that to a whole new level. We use an agenda as a guide, but each group is so different that new questions and topics often come up straight from attendees! Plus, you get to hang out with a gang of awesome Clickers - and we think we’re pretty dang fun to be around, too.
