6 Sure-Fire Ways to Step Up Your Organization’s Social Media Game

Navigating the social media landscape may not require a big budget, but it does require some time and effort. Need help playing the field? Here are six sure-fire ways to step up your organization’s social media game:

1. Leverage multiple platforms

Every social media platform has a unique set of strengths and weaknesses. For example, Twitter is great for sharing quick blurbs of information, while Pinterest excels in visual appeal. If you want to reach a wider audience, it’s best to leverage several of these different social media platforms.

2. Schedule posts

You can’t be at your computer all the time, but you can keep the conversation going. How? Well, many social media platforms have the ability to schedule posts for a future time and date, so even if you aren’t in the office, you can still have a steady stream of content going. This is particularly important if you want to establish a sense of familiarity among your followers.

3. Start or join a trending topic

Hashtags are great for attracting new followers. After all, the purpose of hashtags is to make certain words and phrases easily searchable by all users. If you see something trending and can relate it back to your organization – even if it’s a little far-fetched – use that hashtag and join in on the conversation!

Here’s how Arby’s did it when #TalkLikeAPirateDay was trending:

4. Review (and use) analytics

While you shouldn’t get totally obsessed with numbers, it is helpful to know which posts performed the best (i.e. got the most likes, clicks, shares, etc.). Most sites offer a basic level of built-in analytics, but if you want a more in-depth report, try utilizing a social media management system, such as Hootsuite.

By reviewing social media analytics – and making changes accordingly – you can improve the overall effectiveness of your organization’s social media strategy.

5. Listen

You should always be listening out for your organization’s name, but take it a step further by listening out for what’s going on in your organization’s industry as well. Are there any topics that your followers all seem to be catting about? What stories are trending? Being aware of what’s going on outside of your organization can be extremely helpful when it comes to engaging your members and potential members.

6. Keep it fun

The whole point of social media is to engage with your followers. It’s not to share a bunch of technical info that bores your followers to death. If your page seems a little dry, share some humorous content. Trust us, making someone laugh is the BEST way to generate engagement.
