December 31 seems to creep up faster and faster every year. While resolutions aren’t for everyone, I think we can all agree that a new year is the perfect time to start fresh with something, whether that’s a new initiative at the office or working on something a little more personal.
Not sure what direction to take as far as 2019 resolutions go? We’ve put together a few fun ideas for you to consider:
Try your hand at DIY
I always find myself watching those “Make your own dishwasher pods!” type videos and thinking…”I could do that,” saving the video, and then never looking at it again. (Whoops.) If you’re a DIY dreamer, list all (or a few) of the projects you’ve considered, and start knocking them out one-by-one.
Mind-ful-ness (n) – “The quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.” Sounds pretty simple, right? But most of us aren’t mindful in our day-to-day lives. We’re so focused on work and our kids and, well…life!
But if you are able to practice mindfulness, the benefits stretch far. We’re talking better self-control, enhanced flexibility, improved concentration, and SO much more. It’s definitely worth a shot!
Read more books
This seems to be a resolution of mine just about every year - and one I actually follow through with, at that! Books allow you to grow both personally and professionally, and better yet, escape for a little bit (which is always nice).
If this one intrigues you, pull up The New York Times Best Seller list and start identifying a few good (hopefully!) reads. You may even want to ask for a few recommendations on social media. Either way, carve out 30 minutes to an hour per day to just get lost in a good book. (Bonus if you can add in a good cup of coffee or hot tea.)
Watch more movies
Ok, so maybe books aren’t your thing. But what about movies? They can often be just as entertaining (and many are even based on books!). Start putting together a list of movies you’ve always wanted to watch, but just never have. You can explore lists of classics or even just poke around Netflix a little (there’s always something good there).
Stress less with a weekend movie night. It’s just what the MemberClicks blogger-doctor ordered!
You know what they say: Travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer. (Aside from lottery tickets and stocks, if we’re getting technical.)
Make 2019 the year of adventure! You can either go big with an international trip or keep it local by exploring your own home town/state. Either way, it’s a big world, and there’s always something new (and cool!) to see.
We often think about volunteering and giving back at the end of the year, but really, shouldn’t it be top-of-mind ALL year? Make it a goal to volunteer to once a quarter, either on the local, state, and/or national level. There are so many people and organizations out there that need help, and honestly, the most valuable thing you can give is your time. You never know the impact it could have.
Try a 30-day challenge
If committing to something for 365 days sounds intimidating (and/or impossible), try committing to simply a month. And if it goes well, extend it out! Or try an entirely new 30-day challenge. These can revolve around anything: fitness, reading, photography, writing, etc. Get creative, and more importantly, have a little fun!
Commit to professional growth
Have you been contemplating going back to school? Or persuing the CAE credential? Make this year “the year.” You’re never too old or experienced to keep learning and growing in your career.
And speaking of growing, we know you want to make 2019 the best year for your organization too.
