Engaging First-Time Conference Attendees: 4 Tactics to Try

Of course you want to provide an exceptional experience for ALL of your conference attendees, but ensuring that happens for your first-time attendees is particularly important. Their decision to attend future events (and possibly even renew their membership) depends heavily on that first experience, so going the extra mile for those folks, in particular, is certainly worth it.

A Rookie’s Guide to ASAE Annual

Posted by Callie Walker

So you’re an ASAE Annual newbie, huh? No worries! We’ve all been there. If anything, you should be PUMPED! You’re about to partake in the biggest association-related event of the year!

To help you feel more at ease, we’ve put together a few need-to-knows for ASAE Annual rookies. Take a look!

Social media

  • ASAE Annual is on Facebook! If you haven’t done so already, you can like the page here
  • The official Twitter account for the ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition is @ASAEAnnual. We recommend following along for all the latest news and updates.
  • The official hashtag for ASAE Annual is #ASAE15. People will be tweeting a lot before, during, and after the event, so be sure to follow along.
  • If you have any specific questions about ASAE Annual, just tweet @ASAEAnnual using the hashtags #ASAE15 and #newbie. Someone will respond to you with assistance.

  • We speak from experience when we say to bring the following items: comfortable walking shoes, Tylenol, water, and a phone charger. (You’ll thank us later.)
  • It's also not a bad idea to bring a map of Detroit. You’ll have some downtime here and there, so you’ll want to know how to navigate the city. (For ideas on what to do in Detroit, click here.)

  • The Cobo Center can be overwhelming, even for ASAE Annual vets. Pop by the “Hive,” located on the Level 2 Concourse, on Saturday, August 8 to take a tour and learn how to navigate the Center. Tours will be held at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. that Saturday.

  • Pop by the Hive (on the Level 2 Concourse) first thing in the morning on Sunday, August 9 (7:30 – 8:30 a.m.) to meet up with some other first-time attendees and even a few regulars. Staff will be around in case you have any questions or need help mapping out your day.
  • To spot other first-time attendees, just look for newbie/bee stickers on people’s badges. People will also be wearing First-Timer ribbons, making it easy for you to identify new friends. Don’t forget to grab one for yourself at the registration desk.

Don’t worry newbies, you’ve got this! We’ll be posting more tips and info leading up to the event, so be sure to follow us on Twitter @MemberClicks.

We’ll also be hosting several cool events at ASAE Annual, so check them out here.
