Membership Monday: Attracting Young Professional Members to Your Association

It’s the question that gets asked over and over and over again:

How can we attract young professional members to our association?

And hey, it’s a valid question! As more and more Baby Boomers enter retirement, and more and more Millennials and Gen Z-ers enter and move up in the workforce, in order for associations to remain relevant (and in existence), they have to start appealing to those younger generations.

And we’re not just talking about “getting on their radar,” but actually getting those young professionals to JOIN associations. (Not the easiest task ever, we’ll admit.)

But good news! In the first installment of our new Membership Monday series, we’re addressing how to attract young professional members to your association. Read on for a few tactics worth trying!

Association Pros: What's Your Why?

Regardless of what industry you work in or what your particular role is, it is SO easy to get lost in your day-to-day.

We need to send out that email.

Have the lanyards come in yet?

Is everything in place for tomorrow’s webinar? How many registrations do we currently have?

The list of “need-tos” goes on and on and on and on…

But you know what that often leads to? Association burnout.

Those tasks become just that: seemingly never-ending tasks. And that can make carrying on not only difficult, but downright discouraging.

We’ve all been there, which is why I urge you to take a step back and look at the big picture. What’s your why? Why do you REALLY do what you do? Why do you wake up early and go that extra mile? Why do you volunteer on top of working a full-time job? What lights that fire in you?

We all have a why, and when things get overwhelming, it’s important to remember what that why is. Write it down. Hang it up at your desk. Make it your computer background. And more importantly, share it with your team. Your why will not only keep you going, but it will make your association better. Trust us! Because what’s done in passion is done well.
