Engaging First-Time Conference Attendees

Engaging First-Time Conference Attendees: 4 Tactics to Try

Of course you want to provide an exceptional experience for ALL of your conference attendees, but ensuring that happens for your first-time attendees is particularly important. Their decision to attend future events (and possibly even renew their membership) depends heavily on that first experience, so going the extra mile for those folks, in particular, is certainly worth it.

What does “going the extra mile” for your first-time attendees look like? Here are a few tactics worth trying:

How To Rock ASAE 2014

Posted by Renee Key

It’s that time of year again! The American Society of Association Executives annual meeting will take place in Nashville this year, and we’ve got some tips for you to make the most of your trip!

While you’re preparing business cards, looking over Learning Labs and trying to keep track of all the parties, don’t forget these things!

-       Notebook

Yes, a notebook! The Learning Labs will hold no significance if you don’t remember what you learned. Take copious notes during the Learning Labs to remember new ideas, trends, names, and everything in between. When you get home, you’ll be glad you have something to glance over and remember the key takeaways from each session.

-       Phone Charger

With all the photos, texting, emailing and tweeting you’ll be doing, it’s a good idea to bring your phone charger with you at all times. Nothing is worse than a dead phone in the middle of the day! A good idea is to find an outlet near your seat in a Learning Lab or during lunch.  But if you forget your phone charger, don’t worry, you can always use the complimentary charging stations in the Small Staff Lounge located at the Music Center Davidson Ballroom Salon C1.

-       Hand Sanitizer

Instead of making a trek to the restroom every time you need to wash your hands, bring a small bottle of hand sanitizer. You’ll be touching business cards, door handles, interactive booths, free swag, food and people. It’s perfect for post-handshakes and pre-mealtime.

-       Shoe Inserts

You will be doing a lot of walking and a lot of standing while at the ASAE annual meeting. Depending on your hotel, you’ll have to walk to the Music City Center for the expo and Learning Labs, and then you’ll have to walk to other hotels and restaurants for receptions and parties (like the MemberClicks Small Staff Shindig hosted at B.B. King’s Blues Club on Sunday evening). Whether you wear high heels, flats or dress shoes, it’s a good idea to invest in some shoe inserts. Your feet and lower back will thank you for it!

-       Snacks

Yes, breakfast and lunch will be provided and maybe even dinner, but what if you get hungry in between meals? You could always go on the hunt for a vending machine, or better yet, you could pack some snacks beforehand. Small, discreet snacks fit perfectly into purses and pockets. Some popular options include granola bars, crackers and trail mix. A snack is the perfect pick-me-up to keep your batteries running.

These are some essential items that will make your ASAE annual meeting trip much more productive and enjoyable. Do you have any must-have items that you take to conferences and meetings?
