Engaging First-Time Conference Attendees: 4 Tactics to Try

Of course you want to provide an exceptional experience for ALL of your conference attendees, but ensuring that happens for your first-time attendees is particularly important. Their decision to attend future events (and possibly even renew their membership) depends heavily on that first experience, so going the extra mile for those folks, in particular, is certainly worth it.

What does “going the extra mile” for your first-time attendees look like? Here are a few tactics worth trying:

What Can Association Leaders Do When Technology Goes Down?

Posted by Sarah Hill

When you’re used to a connected world, a technology outage can be the most annoying thing ever. This is especially true when you’re a small staff association leader and it’s just you and your files. Unfortunately as far as technological advances come, outages sometimes happen. Here’s how to be prepared for the worst breakdowns!

How to prevent (or be prepared for) technological disaster

  • Run regular virus scans
  • Read tech news and stay up to date on potential security threats
  • Back up your data regularly either externally or in the cloud
  • Have other people aware of essential passwords
  • Know secure places to go for backup Internet access
  • Have a list of essential phone numbers and email addresses on paper somewhere
  • Perform regular updates on your machines

When your AMS goes down

As an AMS provider we know how important it is for your AMS to just work. But outages sometimes happen with AMS solutions, as they do with every kind of technology out there. Hopefully the outages are few and far between! Your AMS provider probably already knows about the issue if there is one, but go ahead and call the customer support team to be on the safe side and let them know about the issue, and see if there’s an update.

When your Internet goes down

Here you have two options: find more Internet or work offline. Neither of them is preferable, of course, but you have work to do. You can probably handle some short emails from your smartphone, but chances are, especially if the outage is unexpected, you’ll have to find somewhere secure to log on. Take some time and contact anyone who's expecting to hear from you soon.

When your whole computer crashes

Complete crashes are getting slightly fewer these days, but they’re still possible, especially in older equipment. This is when those backed-up files come in handy! It can be as simple as sending your computer in for service and accessing your files via the cloud and picking up where you left off.

Technology can be a pain, no question, but it also can make your life so much easier as a small staff association leader. Is one of those files you’re terrified of losing a massive membership spreadsheet? Perhaps it’s time to consider another solution.
