Engaging First-Time Conference Attendees: 4 Tactics to Try

Of course you want to provide an exceptional experience for ALL of your conference attendees, but ensuring that happens for your first-time attendees is particularly important. Their decision to attend future events (and possibly even renew their membership) depends heavily on that first experience, so going the extra mile for those folks, in particular, is certainly worth it.

15 Content Ideas for Your Organization's Newsletter

Content Ideas for Your Newsletter (Updated)

The following blog post was originally published on 11/10/16, but updated 12/31/18 for added value.

Does your association or chamber send out a weekly or monthly newsletter? If so, you know how challenging it can be to come up with fresh and valuable content, time and time again. (We speak from experience.)

But having those newsletters is a great way to not only engage your membership, but provide your members with value on a frequent and consistent basis - so it’s important to keep those communications flowing.

Not sure what to include in your next (or future) newsletter(s)? Below are a few content ideas:

  1. Write about and promote your upcoming events. Include photos, member testimonials, reasons to attend, etc.

  2. Highlight a member or volunteer who’s gone above and beyond. (Check out these 14 questions to ask for an engaging member spotlight.)

  3. Include a portion of one your recent blog posts (linking back to the full post on your site).

  4. Don’t have a blog? Feature someone else’s post (as long as it’s industry-related and you give them credit).

  5. Include a “Don’t forget to follow us on social media!” section (with links, of course).

  6. Have a new hire? Consider profiling them with a nice headshot.

  7. Highlight one of your newer or under-utilized member benefits.

  8. With the new year practically here, consider including a “Highlights from 2018” section. (You can include pictures from your annual event, your organization’s major accomplishments, memorable moments with your staff, etc.)

  9. In need of volunteers? Explain the “why” and include a link/point of contact for members to sign up.

  10. Promote your latest white paper, eBook, video series, or industry report (if you have one).

  11. If someone else has published an interesting white paper, eBook, video series, or industry report, share that (but again, be sure to give them credit).

  12. Hosting an upcoming webinar? Include the topic, date, time, and a link to register.

  13. Ask for member feedback. This can be in regards to an event or event or member satisfaction in general.

  14. Introduce your new board members. That’s exciting news for your organization!

  15. Celebrate big wins. If your organization achieved a big goal, whether it be to raise money or impact legislation, let it be known. This will really help pump people up and motivate your organization’s membership.
