Engaging First-Time Conference Attendees

Engaging First-Time Conference Attendees: 4 Tactics to Try

Of course you want to provide an exceptional experience for ALL of your conference attendees, but ensuring that happens for your first-time attendees is particularly important. Their decision to attend future events (and possibly even renew their membership) depends heavily on that first experience, so going the extra mile for those folks, in particular, is certainly worth it.

What does “going the extra mile” for your first-time attendees look like? Here are a few tactics worth trying:

5 Things to Be Thankful For (Association Edition)

5 Things to Be Thanksful For.jpg

Can you believe Thanksgiving is TOMORROW?! We sure can’t, but we’re excited nonetheless. To help you get in the spirit, here are five things to remember to be thankful for:

1. Your members

First and foremost, it’s important to acknowledge the importance and value of your members. They’re the backbone of your organization - your supporters and your number one fans. You may get caught up in the percentage of members who don’t renew each year and the percentage of members you’d like to recruit in the future, but for a moment, think about the members you have now. They’re members because they see value in your organization and believe in your mission and/or cause - and THAT’S something to be thankful for.

2. A mission you’re passionate about

How great is it that you get to go to work and put time and energy into something you genuinely care about? It’s easy to forget that sometimes given how much goes into being an association professional - the long hours and the often tedious tasks. But those tasks add up and allow you to make a difference. Which leads us to our next point…

3. The ability to cause change

Your association has P-O-W-E-R, and so do you! You have a whole community of people eager to help cause change. And whether that change is little or big, it’s historical in the sense that it’s helping move your industry and mission forward.

4. A job that allows you to THINK

A lot of people go to work and function somewhat on autopilot. They work through tasks without even having to think about them. And though sometimes that can seem appealing, how nice is it that you GET to use your brain? You get to think creatively, and to an extent, try different things. When planning an event, for example, you get to determine the theme, the swag, the messaging, etc. And yes, that can sometimes be overwhelming, but at the same time, it’s also quite exciting. Like we said, you’ve got the power - brain power included!

5. A community

We talked about your members in point #1, but you actually have a support system that extends far beyond that. There may be other associations out there working towards a similar cause. There are definitely associations out there designed to help other associations (ASAE, for example). And now, with social media in the mix, there are groups of association professionals looking to help other association professionals (just follow the hashtag, #assnchat on Twitter). Together, these things make up a community - and their your community of support.

Here at MemberClicks, we’re thankful for our customers, our employees, our subscribers, and the association community, as a whole. So from all of us, thank you and Happy Thanksgiving!
