To some extent, you’re always marketing your association or chamber. Regardless of what season it is, you always want to recruit new members, and beyond that, engage the ones you currently have.
That said, it can be hard to essentially say the same thing over and over (join now, join today, register now, etc.) without your messaging getting stale. But that’s where holidays and seasonal shifts can really come in handy! An “event” that a large number of people can relate to gives you more opportunities to get creative and play around with your messaging.
With a new month just days away (hello, March!), it might be worth spicing up your marketing and experimenting with a fun seasonal promo. Below are two holidays to consider playing off of, and better yet, promo ideas for each!
A St. Patrick’s Day promo
Whether you’re Irish or not, St. Patrick’s Day is just one of those days that’s FUN. Green drinks, green clothes, festive music...what’s not to love?!
Get in on the fun at your association or chamber by offering a special St. Patty’s Day promo. For example…
- If you’re trying to get people to join your organization or register for an event, you could use the messaging, “TODAY ONLY: Save some green with this special St. Patrick’s Day deal! 🍀” (You’d, of course, then want to offer some kind of promo code or discount.) Another approach you could take: “It’s your lucky day! Save [percentage or dollar amount] on [a one-year membership or conference registration pass]! 🍀💰”
- If you’re trying to bump up online member engagement, a St. Patrick’s Day social media giveaway could be fun. It could be as simple as, “Feelin’ lucky? Tell us what you love most about [industry/community name] for a chance to win XYZ!” (XYZ could be a free registration to something to even a special basket of swag.)
A first day of spring promo
Just two days after St. Patrick’s Day is the first day of spring — another opportunity to put a little spin on your organization's marketing. A few spring promo ideas are as follows…
- Again, if you’re trying to get people to join your organization or register for an event, you could play with the messaging, “Here comes the sun...AND a special deal! 😎” (You could then go on to announce a limited-time offer.) Or, if your organization offers discounts pretty regularly, you could use the messaging, “New season, new savings! 🌺🌼 March on over to our website and save [percentage or dollar amount] on XYZ!”
- Now let’s talk engagement. If that’s your primary goal, a social media contest would work well here too. For example, you could post something along the lines of, “Spring has sprung! To celebrate, we’re giving away two tickets to the [local baseball team] Home Opener! ⚾️ Tell us what you love most about spring in the comments below for your chance to win!” Simple for you to conduct, simple for your members/followers to join in on, and best of all, effective! (Who doesn’t want to win free tickets to something?!)
Note: If you do decide to offer some kind of St. Patrick’s Day promo, you probably don’t want to offer a spring promo too (or vice versa), given how closely the two days fall. But that’s not to say you can’t leverage both holidays in your marketing efforts. For example, let’s say you do offer a St. Patrick’s Day promo. Well, you can still incorporate spring into your organization’s general messaging. Without offering a giveaway or discount of some sort, you could still send an email and/or post something on social media saying, “Spring forward your career with a [association/chamber name] membership! Click here to learn more and join!”
Again, the point of playing into these holidays and seasonal shifts is to keep your ongoing messaging FRESH.
